So today I want to talk about sales funnels.
A lot has been written and said about them.
Internet marketers have taken the whole sales funnel thing to another level.
Turned them into an art form.
But sales funnels are not new.
Old style offline businesses with little or no presence online, have sales funnels.
Try this for size:
1. Ad in Yellow Pages
2. Phone Inquiry
3. Rep talks to the prospect
4. Prospect buys something
That’s a sales funnel.
No big deal.
All the palaver that some of these internet marketers go on with makes me feel nauseous.
And they sure make them complicated.
So complicated that if you didn’t get yourself a dose of reality you’d be forking out big bucks for their done for you funnel system ’cause there’s no way you could build it by yourself.
Even if you paid the money – and I’m talking $10k or more – does it guarantee success?
Of course not.
In fact, if you haven’t got the basics in place you may as well piss the money up against the wall for all the good it will do.
You’ll have a swish sales funnel, for sure – but not much else
All because you have not taken care of the basics.
So forget fancy pants sales funnels and all the BS that goes with them.
So what are the basics?
Well, if you’ve been around for more than 5 minutes in this game I reckon you know already. But for whatever reason (actually, I know the reasons, ha ha) you’re probably not doing them.
But here they are:
1. Build a list
2. Warm the list
3. Sell ’em stuff
See, when you have a list that’s been warmed, subscribers will happily do business with you.
They know you, they like you, and they trust you
End of story
But that’s not how it works in the fancy pants funnel business. I’ve seen some funnels with more than a dozen elements. All because these so-called marketers insist on selling stuff to cold people.
If you had a choice between promoting to people who don’t know you from a bar of soap, and people who have a warm regard for you, which would you choose?
No brainer, right?
So if you’re doing the basics and relentlessly building and cultivating your email list, why the heck do you need a supa doopa complicated sales funnel?
Keep it simple, stupid.
That’s the way.
Keep it simple, implement aggressively, and watch the money flow.
It ain’t hard.
P.S. The preceding doesn’t mean that you don’t need a sales funnel. You do, but simple is best and a warmed email list trumps everything else.
