The A.C.T. Formula – How to Use it to Demolish Your Fear
Fear is something that manifests in all sorts of ways. For marketers, especially direct sales people and network marketers, fear of making prospecting calls is often top of their fear list.
Fear is a problem for all of us at some point in our lives. So how can we break through the fear barrier and just do it anyway?
Well to give you a pointer on how to overcome the problem here is an acronym I think you’ll like: A.C.T. It’s short for Action Conquers Terror.
You can read books, listen to motivational cd’s etc. But I think the best way to do it is to simply get into action. Let’s say I had some leads to phone and I didn’t feel like ‘dialing for dollars’.
My solution would be to get on the phone and talk to some business associates first. That warms me up and helps to reduce my fear.
Then I would make a promise to myself to call just 3 leads. Invariably after calling the three leads I’ll have some adrenalin pumping which is all I need to call the remaining 20 leads on my list.
Works a treat.
Am I talking theory? No. This is exactly what I did when I first got started in my home business in 2006. I knew I had to phone the leads, but there were some days when I didn’t want to do it. So I had to trick my brain into feeling good once again about picking up the phone. So that’s what I did.
And therein lies the real reason why a newbie like me made more than $100k in my first year, and many others don’t. I had to find a way to overcome my stinkin’ thinkin’, and that was how I did it.
It ain’t rocket science!
Of course, today things are different – appointments are booked for me by my PA, or prospective team members phone me before she calls them.
But if I had to start calling leads again it wouldn’t be too hard to get into the same pattern again. And if that fear monster reared its ugly head again, I’d remember the little acronym – A.C.T. Action Conquers Terror – and get to work.
